The Half Diet is Simple Math

On day six of Half Week you have probably realized by now that this has been an exercise in the easy way to reduce calories. Fix your meals the way you always have, order the meals you always have, eat what you want, just take the portions you are used to and cut them in half. Set them aside, share them, freeze them for another meal do anything you want with them, just DON’T EAT THAT OTHER HALF. In the end it will all add up to less you.

TODAY: WALK DOUBLE YOUR USUAL DISTANCE.

Don’t STOP Eating Today

The holidays are winding down. The resolutions have been made. But this is NOT the day to go on a hard core diet. You’ll fail and give up entirely by mid week. Sure you rip of the Band Aid and dive into the cold pool, but you need to make a lifestyle change or one year from today you’ll be reading this and starting over again. (Like you have before.) I’m not giving you justification to eat as much of whatever you want. Today you start reducing your food intake and purging your house of bad stuff.

Here’s today’s plan: Use up the snacks, cookies, candy and high calorie foods. If you have guests around, send them home with a goodie bag. If you have unopened snack foods, return them to the store. (Yes they take returns too.) Don’t binge on the stuff! Just don’t replenish the pantry.

Oh… GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND TAKE A WALK!

TODAY: WEIGH YOURSELF AND MEASURE YOUR WAIST. IT WILL GIVE YOU A BENCHMARK STARTING POINT FOR THE YEAR TO COME.

Lose Two Pounds A Week By Downsizing

If eating a quick lunch means a burger, shake and a large order of fries, then you’re eating 1500 calories in one meal. That’s a whopper! (Pun intended.) You can still have the fast food burger lunch, just make it a regular burger, small salad (no creamy dressings) and a low fat milk and you have cut over a thousand calories from that one meal. Cut a thousand calories from each day and you will lose two pounds. Honest.

You see 3500 calories equals one pound… of YOU. So by reducing your intake by 500 calories each day you will lose a pound in a week. A thousand gives you two pounds. That’s a nice slow reduction in weight that will keep you out of that dreaded yo-yo bounce. Add the 250 calories you will burn if you walk for a half hour and the healthful benefits of that exercise and you’re really looking good.

So in this economy where downsize has become a dreaded word, this is one that you want to be a part of.

TODAY: CUT 500 to 1000 CALORIES FROM ONE MEAL.

One More Bite Less

We’re working our way down to smaller portions this week, one less bite per meal per day. You’ll start to see a portion size that will satisfy you. In the meantime view every bite left behind as a small victory. Those are calories that aren’t getting in. Feel good about it.

TODAY: EAT ANOTHER BITE LESS AT EACH MEAL.

Subtract Another Bite

As we ease into smaller portions this week. Let’s make all your meals one bite smaller.

TODAY: LEAVE FOUR BITES ON YOUR PLATE AT EVERY MEAL.

Eat Just Three Bites Less

This week you’re going to send back your membership card to “The Clean Plate Club”. We’re going to ease into smaller portions by eating a few bites less at each meal. Now don’t cheat by taking more than you know you could eat. Serve yourself normal portions, or order them when you eat out. Then pull back on your munching throttle when you near the end of the meal. Finishing by leaving a few bites. I know, the guilt at leaving perfectly good food may bother you. If you must, save them to combine into a variety meal later in the week. Of course, you will leave a few bites of that too.

It should be easy. A few less bites, for a few less pounds.

TODAY: LEAVE THREE BITES ON YOUR PLATE AT EVERY MEAL.

A Doggie Bag Will Help You With Your Pants

I don’t mean the kind where your tongue hangs out. I mean when your belly hangs out!

The weekend is here and you are going to get those temptations again. Go ahead. Eat out. Enjoy your meals. Just don’t eat it all at one sitting. The reality is that food portions in the US have increased over the past 20 years. It’s helped to contribute to the obesity epidemic. Or it’s an excuse for it. But either way, restaurant portions are often much more than you should eat at one sitting. So here’s a trick. Order what you want. But have them splt it in the kitchen before it’s sent out to you. Have them go ahead and put half in a to-go box. You’ll have a filling meal and then have another one with your favorites later in the week. Just take it home and pop it in the freezer. That way you won’t waste anything and you won’t WAIST anything either.

TODAY: HAVE HALF OF ANY RESTAURANT MEAL PREPARED TO GO.
