Which $3 Fast Food Low Carb Meal Is Best?

I’ve mentioned having two $1 double cheeseburgers and a $1 side salad from McDonald’s as a quick low cost, low carb meal. It’s quite a value, they add lettuce instead of buns and put them in a container. Years ago when the Atkins diet was first on the scene I ordered the burgers without a bun and they actually did them with all the condiments and wrapped them in paper like a regular burger.

The other day I tried Burger King to see what the same money would buy. They have Whopper Juniors for $1 but no inexpensive salad. But since the Whopper comes with lettuce and tomato I decided to order three without the buns. Well instead of the 4 patties at McDonald’s I only had three. Though they put all the salad stuff in a container it was a bit smaller in total size.

Though the char grilled flavor of the meat was a nice change, but the $3 meal at Burger King was far less filling. Because we sometimes need a quick meal on the go, the challenge will continue to other fast food establishments.

How Did Jerrod Do It?

Subway seems to have finally moved on from having Jerrod star in all their spots, but we all know the story. He was way overweight, ate Subway subs and lost weight. I’m not sure of his sanity though. I mean I like Subway, but I like variety better. But you can add a sub to your meal plan and really reduce your calories while enjoying a filling meal. Stay with mustard instead of oil or mayo and ask them to stuff it with the veggies. Get all of the veggies. With the six inch ham sandwich (on a whole wheat roll please) you can even add their oatmeal cookie for dessert and stay at 423 calories. Or have a whopping foot-long turkey for 666 calories and walk for 15 minutes to take it back down to about 500.

Are you seeing how this is working? Who knows, you may star in your own commercial someday.

TODAY: HAVE HALF A SUB INSTEAD OF YOUR USUAL FOOT LONG.

Are Fries Worth A Burger?

I love french fries. I really love GOOD french fries. The ones from fast food restaurants just don’t do it for me since they stopped frying them in lard. Hey, it’s the fat that makes a steak taste good too! So dropping fries from a fast food meal won’t really matter much. It does add up though. A small serving of fries has 210 calories. That’s about the same as a burger and you get hardly any nutritional value. If you supersize them it’s 610 calories!

So choose your fries wisely. If they’re real fries, cut from fresh potatoes and fried in peanut oil. (Like at 5 Guys) Go for a SMALL ORDER (Unless it’s at 5 Guys where you will SHARE a “small” order… and have the single patty burger!)

TODAY: RESOLVE TO EAT ONLY THE GOOD FRIES. DON’T WASTE CALORIES ON THE ORDINARY ONES.

No Bun Burger

Since we’re avoiding fried food this week, you probably are thinking of some grilled burgers. They’re great even without the bun. Unless it’s a great whole grain it actually doesn’t add a whole lot of taste anyway. So the calories and starch don’t get you much. Actually a knife and fork burger with the lettuce, tomato and pickle with ketchup and hot sauce is easier to eat than the same thing on a bun. On the bun a big sandwich like that tends to make us eat faster too. You’re trying not to end up wearing it all. As I’ve told you before you need to slow down to eat less.

TODAY: SKIP THE BURGER BUN.
